Elizabeth D. Rutter, age 99, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home. A graduate of Caroline High School in Denton, Maryland, Class of 1944, she devoted 27 years to her community as a crossing guard at Marbrook Elementary School, where her warm and steady presence touched generations of children.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold “Hats” Rutter, and her daughter-in-law Sharon Rutter. Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, Guy H. Rutter of Wilmington, Leroy R. Rutter of Newark, and Charles W. Rutter and his wife Elizabeth Cerminara of Hockessin. She is also survived by three grandchildren—Christopher (Michelle), Shawn, and Tricia—and seven great-grandchildren: Hailey Rutter, Kelsie Monaghan (Bryce), Susan Ward, Jocelyn Rutter, Tyler Diehl, Samantha Diehl, and Matt Mosier.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her quiet strength, her dedication to family, and the gentle kindness she showed to all those whose lives she touched.
